Mr Ottaviani Mauro with Senegal' s President Abdoulaye Wade and his wife Viviane Wade - 2004

BFCS, Baobab Fruit Company Senegal Sarl

" It took me six years of scientific researches to modernise the first experimental machines that were developed to exploit the raw materials and spread the nutraceutical and phytocosmetical properties of this incredible plant around the world . Every part of the Baobab tree has for centuries been used in African pharmacopoeia to heal incurable illnesses."
                                                     Mauro Ottaviani, Founder

Innovative raw material for the
Pharmaceutical, Nutritional and Cosmetics sectors

Thanks to its own European branch office (located in Italy) and its International Partners,  BFCS is the first company to produce Baobab-Derived products and supply factories worldwide at the most competitive prices and quality:

•  Baobab fruit pulp (EU approved) in two different kind: Native & Micronised

•  Dried and micronised Baobab leaves

•  Micronised endocarp of Baobab Seed, rich in Aminoacids and Fatty Acids  (omega 3 & 6)

•  lipoid extract (ultrasound) from the Baobab seed: a new formulation with greater antioxidant properties.

•  The most effective glycolic extract (ultrasound) from the Baobab leaf and fruit pulp.

•  An exclusive line of Gift products HandCrafted from Baobab Fruit for your Cosmetics & Health customers

Expertise on our raw material has developed over the years thanks to:

•  Collaboration with Ambrosialab and his founder, Prof Stefano Manfredini, a Ferrara-based experimental research centre (a spin-off of Ferrara University) specialised in antioxidants and new compounds.

•  Assistance from Southampton University, which, also thanks to our input, has drawn up a very interesting monography

•  Invaluable botanical advice from Gerald Wickens, leading world expert at Adansonia, and Head of Economic Botany and Conservation of the Royal Botanic Garden Kew

Senegal and its infinite natural resources

Our passion for this plant, with its remarkable long lifespan and unfathomed therapeutic properties, have led us to work with the primary governmental, university and presidential organisations of Senegal.

We are especially grateful to President Abdoulaye Wade and his wife Viviane Wade, who encouraged us tremendously.

Une unité de ransformation implantée à Touba-Peykouck - LE SOLEIL

First class baobab trees and fruits in the Tambacounda region of Senegal

The closed Baobab fruit and fresh leaves are directly collected in Senegal's driest regions, in the spontaneous forests of Tambacounda, with the assistance of Wula Nafaa, a USAID affilate. Nine villages share the gains.
In 2004 (and also 2005 and 2006) the transformation of 140 tonnes of fruit (150 t. in 2005, 150 t. in 2006) - purchased at 25% above the selling price to local merchants (Banabana) translated into profit, economic stability and a new source of revenue for over 800 people. (See article)

Thanks to our unfailing collaboration with local villages and continual presence in Senegal, this Baobab crop is unique in terms of quality.

Each fruit is carefully controled. If broken, the fruit is sold on the local markets.

Production standards required by western markets mean that the entire baobab fruit has to be collected.

Under harsh climatic conditions, the fruit's woody shell protects its high micro-nutritional values for long periods.

A high percentage of the fruit is discarded
(over 44% of the shell's weight)

However, this process enables us to obtain raw materials that are distributed primarily on European & USA markets, with the approval of the strictest health authorities. Other producers buy the already-shelled fruit on local markets.

Our analysis of their products points a high contamination by aflatoxins and ocratoxins, as well as dismally low nutritional values. Based on numerous comparative analyses with fruits collected in Niger, Mali and Mozambique, the Tambacounda Baobab displays superiority from a chemio-physical and organoleptical standpoint.

INNOVATION

The constant research of Ambrosialab and Mr Ottaviani Mauro have developed new researches (coming up soon on the most influent scientific magazines) and new products from Baobab Fruit, now under patent.
